Independence Is Fragile Under Sample-Space Perturbation

题目

A four-card deck contains AA\spadesuit, AA\heartsuit, KK\spadesuit, KK\heartsuit. One card is drawn uniformly at random. Let RR = 「the card is an Ace」 and SS = 「the card is a Spade.」 (a) Compute P(R)P(R), P(S)P(S), P(RS)P(R \cap S) and verify that RR and SS are independent. (b) Now remove KK\heartsuit from the deck, leaving a three-card deck {A,A,K}\{A\spadesuit, A\heartsuit, K\spadesuit\} with uniform draw. Recompute P(R)P(R), P(S)P(S), P(RS)P(R \cap S) and determine whether RR and SS are still independent. (c) Explain intuitively why removing a single card destroyed independence.
